ID 909800
Lot 53 | UNSIGNIERTES KLEINES TAFELKLAVIER, PANTALON, MÖGLICHERWEISE ITALIEN UM 1770-1780
Estimate value
€ 2 200 – 4 400
UNSIGNED SMALL SQUAREPIANO, PANTALON, POSSIBLY ITALY CIRCA 1770-1780
The small, unsigned squarepiano made of solid walnut was most probably manufactured in northern Italy. Indications for this are, among other things, the short octave, which was adopted from Italian organ building, as well as the construction of the action. A harp-stop was used for the overall damping. Presumably, a single-note damping system was installed later, which exists in fragments in a separate box. The squarepiano has a “Prellmechanik” without escapement and without checks, which is attached to the side of each key.
The keyboard (C, D, E, F, G, A-f3 as short octave) has a 3-octave-span of 45.8cm. The hammers are covered with leather.
Dimensions of the instrument:
Length: 1022mm
Width: 368mm
Total height: 737mm
Body height: 154mm
The case was very carefully restored by Giovanni Martignoni, the musical system by Georg Ott. The instrument is in playable condition.
