Der Weihrauchbrenner hat eine zylindrische Form und ist auf der Außenseite in leuchtenden Unterglasurblautönen mit einer fortlaufenden Landschaftsszene verziert, die Gelehrte zeigt, die sich am Flussufer unterhalten, wobei einer auf einen Fischer zeigt, der sich ihnen nähert, alles inmitten von Bäumen und Steingärten.

Es ist umstritten, ob Gefäße dieser zylindrischen Form, die auf flachen Stützen stehen, als Räuchergefäße oder Bürstenkannen dienten. Man ist sich heute einig, dass solche Gefäße als Zensurgefäße dienten, aber man kann immer noch argumentieren, dass die großzügige Höhe der Seiten, die sich so eng an andere Pinseltöpfe anlehnt, wie der Kangxi-Pinseltopf aus der Sammlung Robert Chang, der bei Christie's New York am 26.3.2003, Los 259, verkauft wurde, es dem Gefäß erlaubt hätte, beide Funktionen zu erfüllen. Ein blau-weißes Gefäß dieser Form mit einer zyklischen Datierung, die dem Jahr 1708 entspricht, ist in J.B. Curtis "Chinese Porcelain of the Seventeenth Century", New York, 1995, S. 86, Nr. 27, wo es als Zinngefäß katalogisiert ist. Dr. Curtis stellte fest: "Die Landschaft, die die Weisen in einem Boot und auf einer Landzunge stehend zeigt, nutzt extreme Hell-Dunkel-Kontraste, um die Felsen und Berge darzustellen, die den größten Teil der Landschaft ausmachen...", wie das vorliegende Stück, "Diese Art der Malerei wurde zum vorherrschenden Stil der Landschaftsdekoration auf Töpfen, die zwischen den späten 1690er und den 1720er Jahren hergestellt wurden, als die Landschaftsdekoration auf Waren für den heimischen Markt aus dem Repertoire der Töpfer verschwand".
