Very fresh copy and with an excellent impression of the first edition of this magnificent work illustrating the author's masterpiece which begun in 1752 and finished in 1774 for Ferdinand IV, son of the dedicatee of the volume. Cicognara 4105: " Fourteen plates of immense size form the beauty of this work. There is no Palace invented with such greatness, truly Royal, in any other country in Europe".

Elephant folio (605 x 477mm). Half-title, title engraved with vignette, 2 armorial headpieces and portraits of Carlo and Amalia of Naples dedicatees of the work, engraved initials and tailpieces, 14 double-page plates engraved by Nolli, Pozzi, D'Orazi and Morghen designed by Vanvitelli depicting the plants of the garden and the palace, elevations and sections, bird's eye views from the garden and from the main entrance (some light soiling to half-title and title). Later half calf with corners, plates in marbled boards, spine decorated in gold (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: ownership inscription on title dated 1786.
