A fine copy of Matthäus Seutter's Atlas Novus in fine contemporary hand colouring. The work was first published in 1720 with only 16 maps; among the most important plates are the map of the world in two hemispheres, the map of Brazil and the maps of the continents in excellent condition. California is always represented as an island and the quality of the impression and colouring are very good.

(660 x 965mm). Allegorical title printed in black and white, 50 double-page engraved maps all hand-coloured at the time (lacking two text leaves and the index which is sometimes present, frontispiece reinforced at the inner margin, some foxing, a few sporadic marginal tears). Contemporary wallet calf, title printed on front cover (some rubbing, without a tie).
