Post lot text

Through his spectacular sculptures, Wang Du ironically challenges the frenzy of the media and the flow of information in contemporary society, which seems to transform the real into the virtual. To distance himself from this invasive effervescence, he extracts certain images from sensationalist newspapers, enlarges them to excess, distorts them and translates them into three dimensions. Having grown up during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and now living and working in Paris, Wang Du is still strongly marked by the propaganda he experienced as a young man, by the repression and restriction of freedom. His resin sculpture subjects, like the work presented here, are often women, free, emancipated, almost carefree and provocative. Wang Du has exhibited in many international museums, including the Palais de Tokyo in 2005.
