signed with monogram and dated '92' (lower left), signed again and inscribed 'Piazza della Constituzione, by night/Athens W Holman Hunt' and with inscription '18 Melbury Rd W' (on the backboard) and with further inscription by another hand 'Athens,/the Square./by W Holman-Hunt/in 1893.' (on the artist's label attached to the backboard)
