WISDEN

Cricketers’ Almanack for 1920 [-1929], edited by Sydney H. Pardon and (from 1926) C. Stewart Caine. London: John Wisden and Co., 1920-1929.

The complete decade of the 1920s, showing how immediate cricket’s – and Wisden's – revival was after World War One. All in their original hardback bindings, the volumes vary in length from over 700 to over 1000 pages. The volumes for 1926 and 1927 have the ownership stamps of Karl Andre Auty. Born in Dewsbury, Yorkshire in 1878, Auty emigrated to Vancouver in 1909, and then in 1915 moved to Chicago. He was President of the Chicago Cricket Club and the Illinois Cricket Association for 25 years. Throughout the years he built up a collection of cricket books and memorabilia, the majority of which are still held at the K.A. Auty Library, Ridley College, St Catharines, Ontario. The volumes for 1928 and 1929 contain the printer's quality control examination tickets bound in with the set of adverts at the beginning of both volumes.

10 volumes, octavo (161 x 100mm), each volume with a plate, and all bound in original publisher’s hardback cloth gilt, printed yellow endpapers (1920, 1921 and 1926 in fine condition, the others with some light discolouration of covers, light rubbing of extremities and bumping of corners, with 1928 and 1929 being worst affected with light soiling and staining to covers).
