Alexander Schwabe (Russian: Александр Петрович Швабе) was a mid-nineteenth-century Russian artist of Baltic-German origin. He is known as a painter, one of the most famous animal painters of his time, and also as a teacher and professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg.
Alexander Schwabe was in the service of a painter in the Office of State Horse Racing and Imperial Horse Racing. He painted pictures with scenes of hunting and life of wild animals, as well as creating portraits of pets by order of members of the imperial family. The artist was the only one in the 19th century to receive the title of "professor of animal and animal painting" at the Imperial Academy of Arts.
