Anton Alexander von Werner was a German painter of the last third of the 19th and early 20th centuries. He is known as a master of historical genre and art theorist, one of the main representatives of Wilhelminism and an opponent of modernist trends in painting.

Anton von Werner performed the role of the court painter-chronicler, who depicted in his works the most important events of modern German society. He painted his works realistically, with almost photographic precision, putting painting, thanks to its features, above photographic art in the reflection of events.
