Boris Lurie

Boris Lurie, an American artist and writer, co-founded the NO!Art movement, advocating for socially and politically engaged art that resisted market forces. His controversial work, often centered around the Holocaust, has stirred criticism. Born in Leningrad to a Jewish family, he survived imprisonment in Nazi concentration camps. Lurie created thousands of drawings, paintings, collages, and objects, frequently incorporating pornographic and Holocaust-related imagery. The NO!Art movement aimed to address uncomfortable truths and reject consumerism and established art forms. Lurie's art gained more recognition in Germany, with exhibitions and documentaries dedicated to his work.
