Gerard Soest

Gerard Soest, or Gerald Soest, was a British painter of Dutch origin.

Soest worked in England in the late 17th century, painting portraits of many members of the English nobility, but is best known for his portraits of William Shakespeare and Samuel Butler, which are considered very close to the originals. His style is very similar to that of other Dutch portraitists of the mid-seventeenth century.
