Jan Hubertus
Jan Hubertus was a Dutch and Swiss painter and graphic artist.
He spent his childhood in Java and grew up under the influence of Buddhist monks, which was reflected in his worldview and creativity. Hubertus received his art education at the National Higher Institute of the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp.
After 1945 his painting developed in the direction of abstract expressionism in the context of the Cobra group. He also worked as a teacher and traveled throughout Europe and Africa. In 1965 Hubertus married and moved to Switzerland. It was here that his major works were created over the next 30 years. In the 1960s and 1970s, the artist created paintings with calligraphic structures based on meditative exercises.
