Joseph Cartwright
Joseph Cartwright was an English marine painter.
The exact date of Joseph Cartwright's birth is unknown. But from 1815 he was stationed in Corfu for several years as Major General of British troops and Treasurer General, traveling extensively in the Ionian Islands, Greece and surrounding regions. On his return to England, he published an illustrated volume entitled Views in the Ionian Islands and has since been painting, particularly depicting historical naval battles and landscapes. Cartwright also amassed a detailed collection of various regional costumes.
