Paulus Janszoon Morelse was a Dutch portrait painter and architect of the Golden Age, a member of the Guild of St. Luke in Utrecht. He was very popular as a portrait painter and received commissions from all over the Republic: he painted portraits of contemporaries and colleagues as well as members of the nobility. Morelse also painted pastoral and historical scenes in Mannerist style. He is also known as an active architect of his time: he designed several buildings.
