Wilhelm Joseph Heine was a German genre painter of the Düsseldorf School. Heine may have lived in Bremen and studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1827 to 1837. He is one of the painters who developed genre painting as "free art", thereby expressing their interest in the political, social and economic processes of their time and taking a committed stand (tendency painting).
