William Andrew Ludlow

William Andrew Ludlow was a British army officer and artist.

Captain Andrew Ludlow is listed in the East India Directory as an officer on leave of the Twelfth Regiment of the Bengal Native Infantry in 1835. He is the author of a large panoramic essay on the trials and perils of moving the Bengal Army, then under the control of the East India Company, across the subcontinent. The panorama is richly detailed, filled with human figures, images of horses, camels, and elephants laden with goods. The colorized lithographs are from drawings by an officer. In the descriptive text accompanying the panorama, Ludlow describes how he collected sketches for publication during the long sea voyage home.
