Lindau studied painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and then worked there. Uwe Lindau's painting is characterized by an expressive figurativity that grew out of the "New Figurativity" in painting in Germany since the 1960s. In 1989, together with the artist Axel Heil, he founded the artists' association Combinazione Arrabbiatica, where they painted together so-called "duo paintings".
