Ernst Wilhelm Hildebrand was a German artist of the second half of the nineteenth and first quarter of the twentieth centuries. He is known as a painter, illustrator and teacher.
Hildebrand focused on decorative painting early in his career, but later concentrated on genre painting. In the 1890s he changed direction again, switching to portrait painting. The artist was a member of court circles and created portraits of members of the European aristocracy, including the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Baden, as well as the future Emperor Frederick III and his family.
Hildebrand taught at the Prussian Academy of Arts.
