Nikolay Dmitrievich Mylnikov
Nikolay Dmitrievich Mylnikov (Russian: Никола́й Дмитриевич Мы́льников) was a Russian artist of the first half of the 19th century. He is known as a painter and portraitist and is considered a classic of provincial merchant portraiture.
Nikolay Mylnikov lived and worked in Yaroslavl province and painted portraits of local merchants, factory owners and noblemen, creating family galleries for them. Critics believe that the manner of painting the artist went back to the parsun, a movement in Russian secular portraiture of the XVII-XVIII centuries, which was characterized by conditional portrait likeness, simplicity of composition, static poses of models.
