Semion Aronovich Rotnitsky (Russian: Семён Аронович Ротницкий) was a Soviet and Russian painter, a representative of the Leningrad school of painting. He worked in the genres of full-scale and historical portraits, thematic paintings and landscapes.
Semion Rotnitsky became famous, in particular, for the portrait series "Great Sons of Russia," which he created in the course of 20 years, in the 1960-1980s. In this series were sealed images of celebrities such as poet Pushkin, writers Tolstoy and Gorky, the artist Repin, singer Chaliapin, mathematician Lobachevsky. The artist also painted portraits of his contemporaries.
