Sergey Konstantinovich Zaryanko (Russian: Сергей Константинович Зарянко) was a 19th century Russian painter. He is known as a representative of the realist trend and a brilliant master of the portrait genre. Sergey Zaryanko was also a famous iconographer and created many faces of saints for Moscow churches.
Sergey Zaryanko, the son of a serf peasant, was commissioned by Russian Emperor Alexander II to paint portraits of members of the imperial family for the Romanov Gallery of the Hermitage. Over the course of five years, Zaryanko created more than a dozen ceremonial portraits of influential royalty.
Sergey Zaryanko also devoted much energy to teaching, working as a professor at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Among his students are many famous artists, including Vasily Perov, Illarion Pryanishnikov, Vasily Pukirev.
