Sylvester Feodosiyevich Shchedrin

Sylvester Feodosiyevich Shchedrin (Russian: Сильвестр Феодосиевич Щедрин) was a Russian artist of the first third of the 19th century. He is known as a painter and graphic artist who lived most of his career in Italy.

Sylvester Shchedrin is considered one of the founders of the romantic landscape in Russia. In his early work he was close to classicism, then he began to lean toward romanticism. The artist preferred to work in plein air, striving to convey "live" impressions of nature. His palette was dominated by cold silvery, green and blue tones. The main part of the creative heritage of the master are views of Rome, Naples and its surroundings, domestic scenes.

Shchedrin influenced the development of not only Russian but also Italian art, especially the Neapolitan "school of Positilippo. He was the son of the famous Russian sculptor Feodosiy Shchedrin.
