Jean-Louis Forain was a French painter, graphic artist and book illustrator.
Jean-Louis Forain began his career as a cartoonist. He worked for several Parisian magazines including Le Monde Parisien and Le rire satirique. Later studied at the École des Beaux-Arts with Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux and Jean-Léon Gérôme. He was friends with Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Claude Monet, Edouard Manet and Edgar Degas.
Jean-Louis Forain is best known for his keen observations on Parisian society, especially its social and political scenes. His subjects were often cabarets, theatres, cafés and the bustling streets of Paris. He depicted life of the working class, the bourgeoisie and the upper class with a satirical and critical eye.
Forain's artistic style was characterised by bold brushwork, strong use of line and a limited colour palette. His works often depicted scenes with dynamic movement, conveying the energy and atmosphere of the moment. His paintings were often theatrical in character, reflecting his interest in the world of entertainment.


Georg Baselitz is a German painter, sculptor and graphic artist. In the 1960s he became well known for his figurative, expressive paintings. Georg Flegel was a German painter, best known for his still-life works.
According to the RKD he was pupil of Lucas van Valckenborch in Linz during 1582-1592. In a period of about 30 years (c. 1600–1630), he produced 110 watercolor and oil pictures, mostly still-life images which often depicted tables set for meals and covered with food, flowers and the occasional animal.

Emanuel Leutze was an American and German painter of the mid-nineteenth century. He is known as a painter who worked in the historical genre and is considered a representative of the Düsseldorf School of painting.
Emanuel Leutze was born in Germany and moved to America at the age of nine. He received his art education in Philadelphia, then, returning to Germany, at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts. His most famous painting, "Washington Crossing the Delaware," was painted in his native country, with views of the Delaware River taken from Rhenish landscapes. Returning to the United States in 1859, the artist decorated the Washington Capitol with his historical paintings. His work is highly regarded in America for its patriotic orientation.
In Germany, Leutze was one of the founders of the Association of Artists "Malkasten", the Association of German Artists, headed the Union of Mutual Aid of Düsseldorf artists.


Émile Bernard, a French painter, was a significant figure in the Post-Impressionist movement. He is most famously associated with the development of Cloisonnism, a painting style characterized by bold outlines and flat, vivid color planes, and he played a role in Synthetism, a synthesis of forms and colors in art.
Bernard's artistic journey was influenced by his interactions with notable artists such as Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and Louis Anquetin. His works, which often explored themes of symbolism and religious imagery, ranged from traditional paintings to engravings and illustrations. One of his notable works, "Madeleine au Bois d'Amour," is displayed at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Max Clarenbach was a German painter of the first half of the twentieth century. He is known as a painter, landscape painter, genre painter and teacher and is considered one of the most important representatives of Rhenish painting of his time.
Max Clarenbach made study trips to Italy and Holland early in his career, where he formed his genre preferences and became a landscape painter. His work reflected the influence of the Hague School and the French Barbizonians. The artist skillfully depicted winter scenes and the nature of western Germany. He also painted sports and street scenes.
Clarenbach was one of the organizers of the Düsseldorf Sonderbund and taught at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art.


Oswald Achenbach was a German painter associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting. Though little known today, during his lifetime he was counted among the most important landscape painters of Europe. Through his teaching activities, he influenced the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. His brother, Andreas Achenbach, who was twelve years older, was also among the most important German landscape painters of the 19th century. The two brothers were humorously called "the A and O of Landscapes" (a reference to their initials matching a common German reference to the Alpha and Omega).
