Mauritius


Robert Édouard Pitot was a Mauritian painter and printmaker.
Pitot excelled in drawing the plants, trees and landscapes of the island. In 1848, the lithographic firm Imprimerie Lithographique published his Album Mauricien, a selection of colored views and fruits of Mauritius, and in 1850. - Arbres Coloriés. Pitot also produced some excellent oil paintings and watercolors. His drawings were honored with awards, notably at the first exhibition of art and painting held by the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences of Mauritius in October-November 1847.


Alfred Richard was a Mauritian painter of French origin.
Richard, a leading Mauritian painter of the mid-19th century, painted Mauritian landscapes and portraits, but is particularly interesting today as a skilled genre painter. He sketched and portrayed the multifaceted character of the Mauritian population, its descendants from French colonizers, Indian planters, and Chinese traders. Richard's works are numerous and varied. An album of his drawings Types mauriciens was published in 1840 by Devaux & compagnie and served as the basis for numerous lithographs.
Alfred Richard also painted portraits of local celebrities and a number of landscapes, including the Savannah Plain and Rivière Noire.


Louis Sérendat de Belzim is a Mauritian and French painter.
He is president and co-founder of the Winter Salon and president of the Professional Association of French Painters and Sculptors, Knight of the Legion of Honour and Officer of Public Instruction.
