Animalistic


Charles Christian Nahl was a German-born painter who lived in the United States for the last half of his life. He lived most of those 30 years in California and is considered among the state's first significant painters.
Leaving political unrest in Hesse and France, Nahl immigrated to New York City in 1848 with family and friends. He moved to California the following year, at first hoping for luck in the gold rush. He and his family settled in what became part of the United States, living in Sacramento until 1852 and then in San Francisco.


Paul Neuenborn is a German animalist and illustrator.
He studied at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art and was a member of the Düsseldorf Malkasten Association of Artists. Paul Neuenborn created numerous illustrations for travel and animal story books, depicting wild animals in a very naturalistic way.


Charles B. Newhouse was a British animal painter.
Charles B. Newhouse painted many watercolor scenes with galloping horses in a harnessed carriage or wagon, depicting a dynamic and dramatic plot of what is happening. He was also very skillful at painting dogs and other animals. Some of his paintings were engraved by Richard Gilson Reeve, James Bailey, and Charles Rosenberg.


Basil James Nightingale was a British painter who was a sports painter who painted in oil, pastel and watercolour. He painted racehorses for Edward VIII and also made many humorous sketches, some of which have been published.


Evgeny Vasilievich Nikolaev (Russian: Евгений Васильевич Николаев) was a Soviet and Russian artist of the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. He is known as a sculptor, stonecutter, animalist and teacher.
Evgeny Nikolaev was a regular participant of animalistic exhibitions both in the Soviet Union and abroad, which contributed to his creative development. He was also a pedagogue, teaching drawing and composition at the Moscow Institute of Technology. His multifaceted skill was expressed in working with different materials, from stone and porcelain to metal. Nikolaev's sculptures are in the collections of various museums.


Georgy Evlampievich Nikolsky (Russian: Георгий Евлампиевич Никольский) was a Soviet artist of the mid-twentieth century. He is known as an animal graphic artist and illustrator.
Georgy Nikolsky from a young age was fond of zoology and drawing animals. The first book with his illustrations was published in 1935. In the 1940s and 1960s, Nikolsky became a sought-after animal artist who designed many books, including Bernard Euvelmans' "In the Footsteps of Unknown Animals" and Felix Salten's "Bambi". He also collaborated with Diafilm Studios, creating drawings for the diafilm based on Rudyard Kipling's Mowgli.


Arthur Nikutowski, or Johann Arthur Severin Nikutowski, was a Prussian painter and teacher of Polish origin and a member of the Düsseldorf school of art.
He mostly painted pictures on historical subjects, genre urban and rural scenes, but very often they included galloping horses, Nikutowski's favorite subject.
His son Erich Nikutowski (1872-1921) also became an artist and devoted his work to landscape painting.


Benno Noll is a German painter and graphic artist.
He studied graphic design and illustration at the technical colleges in Mainz and Bielefeld. Noll works in various genres: portraits and images of animals, urban landscapes and figurative silhouettes. His technique of multi-layered frescoes combined with real rust is interesting.


Marianne North was a prolific English Victorian biologist and botanical artist, notable for her plant and landscape paintings, her extensive foreign travels, her writings, her plant discoveries and the creation of her gallery at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.


Karl Ulrich Nuss is a German artist and sculptor who creates large-scale bronze compositions.
His father was the sculptor Fritz Nuss (1907-1999), Karl Ulrich Nuss continued his work and developed an unmistakable design style that characterizes all his sculptures. They depict single people, couples, families, as well as new fantastical creations from the animal kingdom. These works can be seen in public spaces in Bochum, Frankfurt/Main and Stuttgart.
