Each plain octagonal with gadrooned rim with rocaille and acanthus scrolls motifs at intervals, the high-domed covers with gadrooned borders and reeded acanthus scroll handle, engraved on the dishes with the Royal Badge, Garter motto and crown and slightly later with the Hamilton crest and duke's coronet, the covers engraved with the Royal Arms and a coat-of-arms with duke's coronet above, marked under bases, in covers, and on nuts, the finials and covers stamped with workshop numbers 11 and 13

The arms are those of King George III (1760-1820) of Great Britain and Ireland and for Alexander Hamilton, 10th Duke of Hamilton, 7th Duke of Brandon K.G. (1767-1852), of Hamilton Palace, Lanarkshire.

Granted to Alexander, Marquess of Douglas, later 10th Duke of Hamilton K.G. (1767-1852), as King George III's Ambassador to Russia, then by descent to his grandson,
William Hamilton, 12th Duke of Hamilton (1845-1895), of Hamilton Palace, Lanarkshire.
