CRICK, Francis (1916-2004). Autograph letter signed (“Francis”) to Leonard Hamilton, Cambridge, 12 November 1962.

One page, 228 x 178mm (pale area of toning from envelope, tiny paper clip stain). On “Golden Helix” personal stationery; autograph envelope preserved.

“Many thanks for your congratulations on the Nobel Prize.” Penned by Crick less than a month before he, Watson, and Wilkins received their Nobel Prize medals in Stockholm. In full: “Dear Leonard, Many thanks for your congratulations on the Nobel Prize. I hope you had a good time looking after Maurice. I’ve just been trying to get out of appearing on TV but Maurice insists. It will be fun to see him chatting to Princesses! Odile sends her love to you all, Yours ever, Francis.” Maurice Wilkins had been visiting Hamilton in the States.

In 1962, Francis Crick was still living at 19 Portugal Place in Cambridge, but he had christened the house “The Golden Helix” and that name appears on his stationery.
