Tyshler Alexander Grigorievich (1898-1980)
He was born 14 (26) July 1898 in Melitopol (now Zaporizhia oblast in Ukraine)in the family of a craftsman.

Attended classes at the Kiev art school (1912-1917), as well as the school-Studio of Alexandra Exter in Kiev (1917-1919) and the Studio of V. A. Favorsky in Moscow VHUTEMAS (Higher artistic and technical workshops, 1921-1923). In the years of revolution and civil war he served as a painter at the headquarters of the red Army in Ukraine (1919-1920), designed political festival, agitation trains and the "Windows of GROWTH". From 1921 he lived mostly in Moscow. Adjoined by K. N. Redko group "Electroorganic" (1922), was one of the founding members of the "Society of easel painters" (OCT; 1925).

Tischler distinctive style, which intricately combines lyrical expression with surreal grotesque, was formed in the early 1920-ies, finally issued on the background of the official course into a politically-designed "thematic picture".

His paintings were composed in large long-term series (Civil war, 1922-1955; the Makhnovshchina, 1922-1965; Neighbors of my childhood, 1930-1968; Gypsies, 1931-1964; etc.). Experiencing all of the great exposition of the difficulties, the master found a creative outlet in the art of scenography, creating a number of masterpieces, among which the most famous design of Shakespeare's King Lear for the Moscow Jewish theater Mikhoels (1935). A later series of paintings Tischler still Ostrogradsky (like Fascism, 1966-1968), but overall rather lyrically-contemplative (the Caryatids, 1964; Puppet theater, 1964-1967).

In early spring, all summer and autumn Tyshler went to work in Vereya. His house stood on the edge of town close to fields and winding river Rachocki with amazingly clear water.Directly, without the passage, was a large cozy room with a Russian stove. Behind the stove stood a couch and a table. A narrow rickety staircase led upstairs to a small room, there was a workshop with a balcony. The branches fit in the window. Tyshler knew how to do: he stoked the furnace, got the water, master of the bench, sketched or cut from wood sculpture, bringing from the forest a suitable material. Tischler house in the faith after the change of owners has not been preserved.

Alexander - strange, not like anyone and therefore difficult for the viewer the artist. It this for a long time reproached, making it difficult to work. But he was still himself, because otherwise not be able to and not wanted. He is a painter and graphic artist, theatre designer, sculptor and all these kinds of art - on canvas, on paper, on stage - runaway dreamer and the dreamer, depicting a world transformed by the peculiar language of visual metaphors.

His work was an important stimulus for the development of post-war "unofficial art".
