The rectangular white marble top with outset corners above a frieze drawer with a flower-filled entrelac mount above a hinged fall front enclosing a fitted interior, two cupboard doors below enclosing a coffre-fort, the angles with Vestal virgin-headed tapering terms, on bracket feet with paterae mounts, veneered overall with stylized flowerhead-filled trellis parquetry, branded EU with a crown, the underside of the marble with ink stencil ‘EU’ beneath a crown and ‘no. 1070’ and inscribed in red chalk ‘Marbre du secrétaire à l'antique de la caisse n°16', ink-stamped twice M. CARLIN JME, the back branded with EU under a closed crown for the Château d'Eu, stenciled in black 1070

Supplied to Louis-Jean-Marie de Bourbon, duc de Penthièvre (1725-1793) for the Cabinet Bleu of the hôtel de Toulouse and almost certainly recorded there in 1793.
His daughter, Marie-Adélaïde de Bourbon-Penthièvre, duchesse douairière d'Orléans (1753-1821).
Confiscated from the above during the French Revolution.
Restituted to the duchesse by Louis XVIII, her cousin, by decree issued August 20, 1814, and returned to her possession by 1821, when it is recorded in her bedchamber in the hôtel de Roquelaure.
Recorded in the boudoir of her daughter, Eugène-Adélaïde d'Orléans, known as Madame Adélaïde (1777-1847) at the château d'Eu in 1848.
Thence by descent to Emmanuel d'Orléans, duc de Vendôme (1872-1931), great-grandson of Madame Adélaïde, by whom sold; Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, 4 December 1931, lot 99.

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
