Lot 320 | A Map of Pennsylvania
William SCULL (1739-1784). A Map of Pennsylvania Exhibiting not only the Improved Parts of that Province but also its Extensive Frontiers. London: Robert Sayer and J. Bennett, 10 June 1775.

This map is based on Scull’s compiled map of 1770, itself based on sources including those of his grandfather Nicholas Scull, the colonial Surveyor General of Pennsylvania. William Scull himself at this time was an officer fighting in the 11th Pennsylvania Regiment for the Revolution, whilst his map was being used by the Redcoats against him. Phillips, p.674.

Engraved map hand-colored in outline comprising three engraved and joined sheets, together approximately 740 x 1395mm (29 x 55 inches) sheet size (top edge hinged to later paper panel with grommets, horizontal fold separation joined on verso, folds toned and reinforced on verso, few light stains lower right).
