A RARE BRONZE RITUAL WINE VESSEL AND COVER, HU
EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, 11TH-10TH CENTURY BC
The interior of the neck is cast with a six-character inscription reading Gui zuo Fu Bing bao hu, which maybe translated as 'Gui made this precious hu vessel for Father Bing.'
13 3/8 in. (34 cm.) high, Japanese wood box, zitan stand




Provenance

In Japan by 1932 (based on a rubbing of the inscription done in 1932 at the Jimbun Kagaku Kenkyujo, Kyoto University, Japan).
Mineo Hata Collection, Kobe, Japan.
