Post lot text
Language, poetry and architecture are at the heart of Agnès Thurnauer’s concerns. She is a Franco-Swiss artist who, after training at the Arts Décoratifs de Paris, devoted herself to the rewriting of certain themes of history in general and the history of the arts in particular. Her extremely rich pictorial practice is intimately linked to letters and words, which are both tools for making and understanding her work. The contemporary art world was marked by her feminist commitment in 2007 with her series Portrait Grandeur Nature, exhibiting the feminised names of great male artists. In addition to group exhibitions abroad and in France, the artist has been the subject of monographic exhibitions, including Les circonstances ne sont pas atténuantes at the Palais de Tokyo in 2003, Matrices chromatiques at the Musée de l'Orangerie in 2020 and Agnès Thurnauer, A comme Boa at the LaM in Lille in 2022.
