Der österreichische Militärmaler Alexander Pock studierte von 1886 bis 1893 an der Wiener Akademie. Durch seine ausdrucksstarken Militärmotive, insbesondere der k.u.k. Kavallerie, wurde Thronfolger Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand auf ihn aufmerksam, der ihn fortan förderte. Seine naturalistische und penibel detailgetreue Malweise machte ihn zur unbestrittenen Koryphäe der Militärmalerei.
