Further details

ARMAND RASSENFOSSE, A SEATED WOMAN WITH A HAT (RECTO); SKETCH OF A SEATED WOMAN (VERSO), BLACK AND COLOUR CHALK

Born in Liege in 1862, Rassenfosse was a largely self-taught artist, who for many years balanced his passion and interest in drawing and printmaking with running his parents’ business. Today, he is perhaps most well-known for his illustration work, notably for Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du mal. He was, however, also a prolific designer of posters. Many of his designs feature women in headdress, as in the present lot.
