ATTRIBUÉ À JOHANN JULIUS HEINSIUS (HILDBURGHAUSEN 1740-1812 ORLÉANS)Portrait de Marie-Jeanne Bertin (1747-1813), dite Mademoiselle Bertinsanguine52,2 x 33,4 cm (20 1⁄2 x 13 1⁄8 in.) Post lot text ATTRIBUTED TO JOHANN JULIUS HEINSIUS, PORTRAIT OF MARIE-JEANNE BERTIN (1747-1813), CALLED MISS BERTIN, RED CHALK Few drawings are known by German portraitist, Heinsus, who was active around Weimar during the 18th century. The drawing, Femme en buste, similar in format and composition was recently acquired by the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm (NMH 8⁄2018). Here, the model most likely represents Marie-Jeanne Rose Bertin, called Mademoiselle Rose Bertin, who was the milliner and friend of Marie Antoinette. She possessed a clothing store called Le Grand Mogol, situated at rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré in Paris and was known for attracting a large aristocratic clientele. Her portrait by Jean-Honoré Fragonard was disseminated by the engraver Jean-François Janinet and is conserved at the Metropolitan Museum in New York (inv. 24.80.141).
