BUDDHIST BODHISATTVA PADMAPANI
Fire-Gilded Bronze
Nepal
approx. 15. to 16. Century.
TOTAL HEIGHT 21.5 CM
An extremely beautifully crafted early bronze depiction of Padmapani in front of a large, often pierced Nimbus. Padmapani is a very old form of appearance of the popular Avalokiteshvara, the Name of the "Lotus-holder", as the illustration shows. He is a part of round, pierced Lotus base, the right Hand is the "wish-granting, offers on-going" Gesture Varadamudra, the other holding the Stem of a Lotus, the flower on the shoulder. The great, crowned head shows very fine educated introverts face. The magnificent Nimbus is a particularly prunkend, often broken, offers two more Bodhisattvas on elephants standing, two winged mythical animals with a proboscis and fletschendem Teeth at the top and a Garuda with divine beings left and right. The border of the Nimbus is flaming. Mounted on a stepped brass base. Age according to good condition.
