Lot 156 | D'après Paris
CREUZEVAULT, [Henri] (1905-1971), binder. BOUSSINGAULT, Jean-Louis, artist. FARGUE, Léon-Paul. D'après Paris. Paris: Les Amis de l'Amour de l'Art, 1931.

Monumental wrap-around binding by Henri Creuzevault, one of the leading designer binders in pre-War Paris. Limited edition. This is among the largest Art Deco designer bindings that we have encountered, the design measuring about 18 by 30 inches. It uses a variety of both colors and grains of leather to create a three-dimensional design of abstract shards. The volume is no. 19 of 50 copies reserved for subscribers from a total edition of 170.

Folio (455 x 348mm). Illustrated with lithographs after Jean-Louis Boussingault comprising title-page vignette and 15 full-page plates. Full crushed black morocco by Creuzevault, in an abstract geometric design with inlaid multi-colored morocco and blue calf in a wrap-around design on both covers and spine; red suede doublures and blue suede endleaves, stamp-signed by the binder ("Creuzevault") on the upper turn-in, all edges gilt (spine very slightly darkened, a couple of tiny rubs); half morocco chemise and morocco-edged slipcase (light wear and nicks to chemise, slipcase broken with old repair).
