165 x 115 mm. 10 feuillets manuscrits, la plupart uniquement recto, deux entièrement recto verso et quatre autres avec quelques lignes au verso, tous montés sur onglets. Encre noire, nombreuses ratures et corrections.
Demi-maroquin rouge à coins de Devauchelle.
Provenance : ex-libris de Charles Hayoit (sa vente, III, Paris, 29-30 novembre 2001, partie du lot n°387).
Précieux manuscrit documentant la genèse et la réception immédiate de Tartarin de Tarascon.
La majorité du manuscrit est consacrée à Tartarin. Il commence d’abord par « en finir avec cette haine de toute une ville. Tarascon pas visé, j’ai mis son nom, comme d’autres auraient mis Landerneau…Parce que c’est un nom qui ronfle, cueilli en passant, en entendant crier sur la voie : Tarascon... Quand je dis Tarascon, je veux dire tout le midi. Tout le midi Tarasconne… » (p. 1). « Pas grande littérature, reconnaît Daudet. Ecrit enjouant, bien ri – écrit debout, parlé, gesticulé, avec accent » (p. 4). Au moment de la parution, « tout le monde ne comprend pas l’ouvrage » (p. 3). « Commencé à le publier au petit Moniteur, dessins spirituels de Bénassit. Four complet. Journal populaire. Pas compris du tout. Vu une chose, peuple comprend rien à l’ironie. Il croit qu’on se moque de lui, reçu des lettres d’injures… Tribulations pas finies là ! Livre publié d’abord sous le nom de Barbarin. Famille de Barbarin à Tarascon menace de procès. Des amis s’interposent. Je consens à changer par Tartarin toutes les épreuves…Livre réussite, mais pas compris de tous. Il faut être du midi pour comprendre » (p. 14 du manuscrit).
Le manuscrit évoque aussi par endroits les Lettres de mon moulin.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
