Post lot text
Denis Laget was a Villa Médicis laureate in 1989-1990 and his work has been exhibited in several French museums and Regional Funds for Contemporary Art (FRAC). Taking up classic subjects from a long tradition in the history of representation — from vanities to portraits, landscapes and still lives — Denis Laget explores the power of matter, in its most organic and raw form. The thickness of the paste used by the artist, combined with a subtle chromatic palette of half-tones that are willingly acidic, produces canvases marked by roughness as well as softness, gravity and finesse.
