First French edition of this physics treatise by scientist John Theophilus Desaguliers which contains the atmospheric engine of Newcome, the innovations he made to the steam engine, a disquisition on the impossibility of perpetual motion and the description of another of his invention called planetarium, which was used to calculate the exact distance between celestial bodies according to the systems of Newton and Copernicus.
2 volumes, 4to (242 x 194mm). Half-title, woodcut vignettes on titles, 78 folding engraved plates, 2 engraved headpieces, initials and woodcut headpieces (some brownings and spotting, without errata X1 in vol. I and 2A4 in vol. II, a few tables slightly trimmed at the upper margin). Contemporary marbled calf with spine labels decorated in gilt (joints of vol. I starting). (2)
