A fine copy of the first edition of Dowson’s first work, number 20 of 30 copies printed on Japanese vellum. Dowson’s verses were much influenced by French poet Paul Verlaine and are marked by meticulous attention to melody and cadence. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 32.

Small quarto (201 x 148mm). Number 20 of 30 copies on Japanese paper, numbered in ink by the publisher, title printed in red and black. Publishers' Japanese vellum over boards, gilt to a design by Aubrey Beardsley, untrimmed (spine very slightly darkened); purple morocco folding case. Provenance: Barry Humphries (1934-2023; bookplate).
