Post lot text
Initially an underground painter on the streets of New York, then exhibited on gallery walls alongside Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Futura 2000 is one of the major voices of American street art. Presented in 1981 at the PS1 Contemporary Art Center for “New York/ New Wave,” he gradually gained recognition and extended his presence to international institutions such as the Fondation Cartier, the Palais de Tokyo and the Tate Modern. By collaborating with luxury brands such as Nike, Supreme or Comme des Garçons, his practice acquired a new visibility. Thanks to a graffiti that goes beyond simple lettering, Futura creates futuristic pieces arranged in original colour combinations.
