Repräsentatives, halbfiguriges Bildnis der sitzenden Herzogin (1639 - 1722) in prunkvollem Kleid und blauem Hermelinmantel, mit der rechten Hand den Herzogshut haltend. Die Herzogin verband Schönheit mit Bildung und Intelligenz, sie war die Stammmutter der Königshäuser von England, Hannover und Preußen. Aus niederem Landadel stammend, verzauberte Éléonore bei einem Treffen Georg Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1624 - 1705), der sie 1664 zur Mätresse machte. 1666 gebar sie Sophie Dorothea, die durch Heirat Kurprinzessin von Braunschweig-Lüneburg und ab 1714 de jure Königin von Großbritannien wurde und als "Prinzessin von Ahlden" in die Geschichte einging. Éléonore selbst wurde 1674 zunächst in morganatischer Ehe mit Georg Wilhelm "zur linken Hand" getraut. Nachdem sie durch Kaiser Leopold I. zur Reichsgräfin von Harburg und Wilhelmsburg erhoben wurde, konnte 1676 schließlich die offizielle Vermählung erfolgen. Éléonore nutzte ihren Einfluss, sodass Georg Wilhelm schon 1684 als erster deutscher Landesfürst ein Edikt zur Aufnahme von Hugenotten erließ. Zudem war sie maßgeblich an den Verhandlungen beteiligt, die 1679 zum Frieden von Celle zwischen Frankreich, Schweden und den Welfen führten. Gedeon Romandon war ein Sohn des französischen, hugenottischen Malers Abraham Romandon, floh mit seiner Familie 1685/86 aus Frankreich nach Berlin, wo Hofmaler des brandenburgischen Kurfürsten Friedrich Wilhelm (gen. "der große Kurfürst") und seines Sohnes Friedrich III. (später: König Friedrich I.) wurde. Öl/Lwd., doubl.; Verso altes Inventar-Etikett Etikett "Schloss Blankenburg Gemälde-Verzeichnis Nr. 0520", außerdem altes handschriftliches Etikett mit Angaben zur Dargestellten und Zuschreibung an Romandon; 97,5 cm x 80 cm.
