Édition originale, premier tirage, de cette fresque satirique de l'époque illustrée par Grandville. Nombre d'auteurs célèbres écrivent quelques feuillets pour cette édition, dont Balzac, George Sand, Charles Nodier ou Alfred de Musset qui fournissent respectivement les textes suivants : Peines de coeur d'une chatte anglaise, Voyage d'un moineau de Paris, Tablettes de la girafe, Histoire d'un merle blanc. Le caricaturiste Grandville illustre l'ouvrage de nombreuses gravures d'animaux anthropomorphes, dans des situations tantôt bizarres, cocasses ou inquiétantes. Cet exemplaire présente toutes les caractéristiques du premier tirage mentionnées par Carteret pour le texte et les gravures (sauf les fautes aux pages 4 et 15, dont les remaniements ont dû être faits "immédiatement sous presse" au tome I, et pour la gravure page 48 dont la légende est sur une seule ligne au tome II), ainsi que pour le papier (première moitié du t. I imprimée sur papier crème, seconde moitié sur papier blanc). Carteret, III, pp. 552-559 (annonce par erreur 105 pl. au tome II).
In-4 (261 x 182 mm). Illustré de 2 frontispices (un en tête de chaque volume), 96 planches (tome I) et 103 planches (tome II) soit au total 109 planches d'après Grandville, gravées par Brévière, Best, Leloire, Rouget et d'autres, nombreuses gravures dans le texte. Reliure de l'époque : demi-chagrin chocolat, dos à nerfs titré or, caissons ornés de filets et fleurons dorés. (déchirures aux pp. 165 du t. I et 185, 187 du t. II, reliure frottée, coiffes abimées, mors fendu en partie inférieure du second plat du t. I, couvertures illustrées non conservées)

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
