This highly accomplished and already almost painterly study is preparatory to the painting of The Judgement of Pâris, an oil on canvas dating from the 1650s, and now in Hartford, Wadworth Atheneum (inv. 1957-445; Jacques Stella (1596-1657), cat. exp. Lyon, musée des beaux-arts, Toulouse, musée des Augustins, no. 110, ill). This painting is an exception in Jacques Stella's oeuvre, and in 2006 Jacques Thuillier noted that ‘the freedom of the construction, the multiplicity of groups, the complex play of light, the quality of the nudes, suddenly give us a glimpse of a new painter’ (J. Thuillier, Jacques Stella, Paris, 2006, p. 160). A quicker drawing - which sketches the entire composition, whereas the present sheet studies only the group of three Graces looked at by Pâris - is kept at the Biblioteca Nacional in Madrid (ibid., p. 188, fig. IX).

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments.
