HERRI (ALSO HENDRICK) MET DE BLES About 1500/1510 Bouvignes-sur-Meuse (Dinant) - 1555/1560 Antwerpen or Ferrara LANDSCAPE WITH MADONNA AND CHILD, SAINT ANNE AND THE INFANT SAINT JOHN Oil on oak panel. 19,3 cm x 16,3 cm. Verso: On the panel with old wax-seal monogrammed 'RCB'. At the lower edge with a small breakout (old restored), min. scratch marks in the dress of Maria. Excellent overall, largely untouched condition. Comparable compositions are owned by the Basl Art Museum with the 'Landscape with the Holy Familiy' and the Historical Museum in Bamberg with the 'Holy Family with the infant Saint John the Baptist'. The work offered here is extremely rare. In terms of motif and style, it is very close to the Basel work. On the left side a tree borders the composition. On the right side opens a view of a wide panorama with motivically and precisely painted, realisic small individual scenes: on the right front a pond with swans, in the center of the painting a farmstead with walkers, behind a small village with a church, upper left a mountain with a castle. The trees in the middle with microscopic white dots show blooming in the spring time. 'Everything is filled to the horizon and the highest mountain peaks with a variety of small, least landscape and figurative datails .... as well as a selection of human and animal figures ....' figürlichen Details .... sowie einer Auswahl an menschlichen und tierischen Figuren ... Verso: Auf der Tafel mit altem Wachssiegel-Monogramm 'RCB'. Am unteren Rand mit kleinerem Ausbruch (altrest.), min. Kratzspuren im Kleid der Maria. Insgesamt hervorragende, weitgehend unberührte Erhaltung. Vergleichbare Kompositionen besitzen mit der 'Landschaft mit Heiliger Familie' das Kunstmuseum Basel sowie mit der 'Heiligen Familie mit dem Johannesknaben' das Historische Museum in Bamberg. Die hier angebotene Arbeit ist von größter Seltenheit. In motivischer und auch stilistischer Hinsicht steht sie der Baseler Arbeit sehr nahe. Zur linken Seite begrenzt ein Baum die Komposition und eröffnet zur rechten Seite den Blick auf ein weites Panorama mit motivisch detailliert und fein gemalten, realistischen kleinen Einzelszenen: rechts vorne ein Weiher mit Schwänen, im Bildmittelgrund ein Bauerngehöft mit Spaziergängern, dahinter ein kleines Dorf mit Kirche, links oben ein Berg mit Burganlage. Die Bäume im Bildmittelgrund sind mit mikroskopisch kleinen weißen Punkten gehöht und zeigen das Blühen in der Frühlingszeit. 'Alles ist bis an den Horizont und höchsten Bergesgipfel mit einer großen Vielfalt an kleinen, zuweilen winzigen landschaftlichen und figürlichen Details .... sowie einer Auswahl an menschlichen und tierischen Figuren ... angefüllt.'
