Further details
LODEWIJK DE VADDER, A WOODED LANDSCAPE PERHAPS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF VOST, PEN AND BROWN INK, BROWN AND YELLOW WASH, WATERMARK
It is often difficult to distinguish De Vadder's drawings from those of other landscape painters of the Brussels school such as Jacques d'Arthois (1613-1686) ou Lucas Achtschellinck (1626-1699). However, the delicacy of the line, the free and spontaneous use of wash and the parallel hatching are all characteristic of the artist. The sheet was produced in the vicinity of Brussels, but it is not possible to identify the exact location. A signed drawing in brown wash preserved in Munich shows surprising similarities (Wolfgang Wegner, Die niederländischen Zeichnungen des 15.- 18. Jahrhunderts, I, Berlin, 1972, no. 974, ill. II).
