This drawing is an interesting illustration of the collaboration between the artists who took part in the scientific voyage aboard the Uranie. Indeed, Jacques Arago also produced a watercolour of the same subject, but featuring only two tattooed men, sold Christie’s, London, 26 September 2002, lot 71.
