Les Dons de Comus, ou Les Délices de la table… Paris : Prault fils, 1739.
Édition originale : le vade mecum du maître d’hôtel et du cuisinier.
Ce traité inaugure la veine éditoriale des ouvrages qui attestent la transformation de l'art culinaire au cours des années 1740 – dès lors qu'on ne recherche plus la quantité, mais une « harmonie des mets ». L’auteur explique : « …ce n'est ici qu'un abrégé de la cuisine moderne, dont j'espère donner un traité complet » (p. 129). Ce dernier verra le jour en trois volumes (1742), sous le titre de Suite des Dons de Comus, redevenus Les Dons de Comus pour les éditions définitives de 1758 et 1775.
François Marin fut un temps le maître d'hôtel du maréchal de Soubise, épicurien notoire. Ami intime de Louis XV et de Mme de Pompadour, Soubise officiait aux fourneaux avec le monarque et le prince de Dombes pour confectionner eux-mêmes après la chasse leurs plats favoris.
Non signé, l'Avertissement de trente-deux pages mit le feu aux poudres dans la controverse sur la nouvelle cuisine. Attribué à deux jésuites (cf. Barbier, repris par Vicaire), ce texte clé est plus vraisemblablement de Meusnier de Querlon, reconnu comme l'auteur de l'Apologie des modernes (1740) et de la préface de la Suite des Dons de Comus (1742).
Conlon ne recense que deux exemplaires dans les collections publiques en France : Arsenal et BnF (Le siècle des Lumières IV, n° 39 : 593). First of all, you should register to be able to purchase at auction. If the auction house accepts a request, it will participate in the auction. You can view the current status of a bid at any time in your personal account in the "Bids" section.
Auctions are performed by auction houses and each of the auction houses describes their terms of auction. You can see the texts in the section "Auction information".
The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
