Post lot text
A major figure in the New Realist movement, Martial Raysse has always sought to reappropriate reality in his work, from the pop assemblages of the 1960s to his more contemporary creations that flirt with somewhat baroque dimensions. Alternating between techniques — visual arts, cinema, drawing, sculpture and installations — his work is particularly concerned with the treatment of the body, and specifically the female body, as shown in La surface des eaux. Present in numerous institutional collections — Centre Pompidou (Paris), Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Paris), Musée des Beaux-Arts (Montreal), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) — Martial Raysse represented France at the 33rd Venice Biennale. And, in 2015, the Palazzo Grassi devoted a retrospective to him.
